Bernstock Speirs

Paul Bernstock and Thelma Speirs are best friends who have been designing hats together since 1982. Originally inspired by London's club and music scene, the duo have always challenged traditional millinery ideas. Over the course of their 30-year career fans of the brand have ranged from French & Saunders, Miranda Richardson and Bananarama to Kirsten Dunst, Marion Cotillard and Karl Lagerfeld. Their hats are design-led, fashion-forward and underlined by a firm sense of fun. Their unique approach has resulted in collaborations with designers such as Richard Nicoll, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Peter Jensen. They are stocked globally in stores such as Dover Street Market, Liberty, Colette and Opening Ceremony. This year marks their 30th Anniversary. To celebrate they will be showcasing work from the past three decades at Fred London Gallery, opening on November 14th. Here, we visit their store on Brick Lane in London, to examine how they have maintained their successful relationship over the years. www.bernstockspeirs.com
